Guidelines for the Recognition, Assessment and Treatment of Pain
The same multimodal approach as in cats — opioid analgesia, sedation, a local/incisional block, and a pre- and postoperative NSAID — is recommended, with postoperative analgesia extending to about 3 days after ovariohysterectomy. Where controlled drugs are limited, metamizole (dipyrone) is suggested alongside the NSAID as an additional option.
